let’s be adventurers

KPA and I decided to drive down to Charleston, South Carolina during my spring break! He really wanted to catch some redfish and I just wanted to get away for awhile. Also, Charleston seemed to be the closest city with palm trees! These are some pictures I took with my iPhone during our short stay. (Sadly, I didn’t even get one picture with my ‘real’ camera). This was a new city, for both of us- so it was really fun exploring. I didn’t know what to expect from Charleston, but it’s such a fun little city! We even brought our bikes, which was the best decision we made on a road trip!  Unfortunately, I had to interrupt our trip to write a paper for class. So, while I enjoyed the nicest Starbucks I’ve ever been to, KPA fished!
Although, we weren’t too pleased with our accommodations  (very reminiscent of our days living in Hawaii and Bear Brook), we both had a really great time. We didn’t catch any fish, but it was nice to share an adventure together–just like the old days!
I brought along some journaling supplies to document the trip, so I will be back sharing my Charleston Mini-Book and some more of our adventures!!

I finally got a haircut over spring break! It’s just one of those things I tend to neglect, until I’m practically sitting on my own hair! Whoops! Anyway, I went to Soon Beauty Lab in Cobble Hill. I usually never get excited about getting a haircut, but I think I finally found my new “go-to” place. My ponytail is mini and it’s a little less curly, but it’s definitely much healthier!
Like the braid? (bottom left) It’s called the “Waterfall” braid! I’ve seen a few good tutorials online for this one- and it’s pretty easy when you get the hang of it.
Luckily for me, my mom still likes to do my hair.

my life lately…and a happy birthday!

When I think about how much I’ve neglected this space this year, I start feeling guilty! I have to remind myself why I decided to keep a blog in the first place (for myself) and think about all the other things that I have been up to! I didn’t realize how much going back to graduate school would consume my life! Luckily, I’ve still been able to be crafty! I have lots of projects that I have neglected to share- but hopefully I will make some time to celebrate the art!!

Well, that’s my big update! I’m off to celebrate the birth of my best friend!!

Happy birthday Keiki!

porcelaine markers and mo

Ever since I was introduced to the Elephant and Piggie series I have been obsessed with Mo Willems (known for writing for Sesame Street and Knuffle Bunny). My students adore these books and I love them too! I recently had the privilege of listening to him speak at Teachers College and my obsession with him has only increased. I bought these Porcelaine 150 markers and wanted to test them out. I strongly suggest that if you do buy these markers (and use them), make sure to follow the directions! [i.e., make sure that you let the markers dry for a full 24 hours before baking] I learned this the hard way. I may have to use them to make some holiday gifts!

Super Jams

Happy Halloween!
Karl and I didn’t celebrate this year, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dress Jams! I should start planning his costume for next year- then maybe it won’t be so wrinkly =)
