pizza [peet-zer] and corn

Here are some snapshots of last weekend! Sadly I have not had much time this week to be crafty. This may have just been the longest school week to date. I would say ever but who knows what this upcoming week will bring. Last weekend, KPA’s parents were in town for a visit! (Thanks P&B for a great weekend!) We spent a lot of time outside enjoying our wonderful city. We went to Grimaldi’s and the Brooklyn Flea. Now, I’m really excited for summer street fairs. And corn!

we still call her mommy.

Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there!!

I love you Mom! I don’t know what I would do without you!!

(I guess I would have to do my own laundry..Hahaha! Just kidding.) LOVE YOU!

what do you want, a medal?

Yes. Yes, we do. Ok, we really don’t need a medal per se, but this year for Teacher Appreciation Day, I decided to make some ribbon badges for the wonderful teachers on my grade. Now, I can’t tell you what “SMA” stands for…it’s a secret. When I win the lottery and no longer have to work, then I will be able to tell you. But for now, you can just use your imagination.

This is a fun craft that you can make for any occasion. Once you get the hang of it, they are easy to make! So if you want to try these on your own, here’s what you’ll need: a glue gun, pin backings, some wooden discs and ribbon! If you have a sewing machine it will be useful for this project! I found it helps if you make ruffles in the ribbon before you start gluing the ribbon onto the wooden disc! (You can also hand sew the ruffles too.)  I used 2 inch satin ribbon that I got at the Paper Source. This little DIY can even be done with recycled cardboard instead of the wooden discs. And in case you are like me and you forget to buy some pin backings, you can just use a safety pin; they will serve the same purpose.

I love making crafts that make people smile! I can’t wait to make some more.

And next time someone says sarcastically, “What do you want, a medal?” I may just have one waiting in my bag.

diamonds on the soles of her shoes.

Karl has this theory that every girl on the planet loves Paul Simon’s Graceland album. So when I thought about the name for this post about shoes, I thought of him. I like Paul Simon. And yes, I am a girl. But I’m sure not every girl on the planet feels the same. (As a matter of fact, please leave a comment if you are a girl and you hate this album, so I can prove him wrong) Thanks!

Anyway, let’s get on to what this post is about. Shoes. I like shoes. It’s not a secret. This is something I definitely inherited from my mother. This might be embarrassing for the whole world to see, but I’m going to post it anyway. Sorry, Ma. Here’s a line-up of some of my mom’s shoes. More specifically, her Birkenstock collection. (I lined them up a few years ago and took a picture on my cell-phone-so please excuse the poor quality..but you’ll get the point.) Now before you see this, I don’t want you to think poorly about my mom; she’s had most of these for many, many years. She rarely goes shopping for herself, but she has a weakness for shoes. Brace yourself…Crazy, right? I guess to be fair, we do wear the same size shoe, so some of these may be mine. Here’s a little peak at my closet. Most of the shoes that are on my wishlist are very much out of my price range right now. It’s either paying for Columbia or having nice shoes? Hmmmm, the former is winning. So here are some of my favorite designers/shoes at the moment…  SwedishHasbeens.John Fluevog

If you browse the websites you will see, I have expensive taste. For now, I will have to be satisfied with admiring them from afar. Well, I think I’ve spent enough time talking about shoes for one post. If you would like to contribute to my shoe fund, donations are gladly accepted. =)

**Updated: While I was writing this post, I just had to blast Graceland. Just for you, Karl.

teach your children well

I just wanted to send some love out to all teachers around the world!! With some extra love to all my friends and colleagues! I appreciate you!

And just for fun, here’s a little story that my Grandpa always loves to tell (and I always love hear). When my mom came home from her first day of kindergarten, my Grandpa asked her “What did you learn in school today?”And my mom replied, “Nothing, I have to go back tomorrow!”

I told you it was a little story. But I love it. My mom was witty and sarcastic even as a 5 year old! Happy Teacher Appreciation Day MOM!
